Skin | Horror Short Film

Subscribe to ALTER on YouTube: https://goo.gl/LnXRC3 🔥 This horror is scripted. Your goosebumps are not. Insecure about her appearance, Kanika visits a mysterious skin lightening center. "Skin" by Urvashi Pathania #ALTER #horror #shortfilm Connect with the Filmmaker: https://www.instagram.com/skin_ashortfilm/ https://www.instagram.com/swurvashi https://www.urvashipathania.com/ More About "Skin": Deeply insecure about her dark complexion, Kanika seeks a radical skin-lightening treatment at the elite Markandeya Aesthetics. Her sister Ria—a rising makeup influencer famous for championing skin tone positivity—vehemently opposes the decision. But when Ria live-streams her concerns, a follower reveals the facility’s sinister, horrifying true purpose. Now, Ria must infiltrate the clinic to rescue her sister before its too late. Director's Statement: When I read the logline for The Substance out of Cannes, my heart literally sank. I thought, “Oh great, someone just made the body horror movie I’ve been developing since grad school.” But a friend knocked some sense into me. Coralie Fargeat’s masterpiece broke the body horror glass ceiling, but SKIN is entirely its own beast. It’s a psychological body horror film made by and for women of color, interrogating Eurocentric beauty standards from the inside out. By 2027, the skin-whitening market will be a $24 billion industry. Women are literally poisoning themselves with mercury to chase a white ideal. Growing up, a family friend told my mom I’d be unmarriageable because of my dark skin. The resulting years of bleaching creams bred a visceral self-hatred—the kind that makes a teenager want to literally rip her skin apart. SKIN is inspired by this feeling.
