Characters who are not innocent, but still human. With Outlaws, I wanted to take the familiar home invasion setup and flip the perspective. The pitch was simple: what would happen if Bonnie and Clyde broke into the wrong house? I love stories that make the audience feel like they know where things are going, only to pull the rug out from under them. Ana and Ryan move through the world like they’re untouchable, so it was fun to put them in a situation where that confidence starts to fall apart. They think they’re controlling the story, until they realize they’ve walked into someone else’s.
